Donate to the Food Pantry at the State Playoff and Powder Puff Football Games this Weekend

As thousands of people will be turning out for both the state playoff semi-finals tonight and the annual Powder Puff football game at South Brunswick High School, attendees are asked to please bring a food item with them to donate to the South Brunswick Food Pantry.

There will be a collection at both games for the pantry, which is facing food shortages as the numbers of families in need of assistance continues to climb.

"We have given out Thanksgiving baskets to 160 families as of the end of (Thursday), with more to give out," said Social Services Director LouAnne Wolf. "New families come in every day. Although food has been coming in, it goes out almost as fast."

The SBHS playoff showdown with Sayreville begins tonight at 7 p.m.

The annual Powder Puff game will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $5 at the gate 

The food pantry is in desperate need of the following items:

• Snack foods
• Peanut butter and jelly
• Canned meats (tuna, chicken, chili, etc.)
• Cereal and oatmeal 
• Pancake mix and syrup
• Jello/pudding
• Juice boxes
• Boxed rice and boxed potatoes
• Canned yams or white potatoes
• Boxed baked goods

Those interested can drop off frozen turkeys or hams Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. To donate or volunteer for the South Brunswick Food Pantry, call 732-329-4000 ext. 7674.
