Assemblyman Biondi, 69, Dies of Cancer

Hillsborough resident disclosed last month he had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Two days after  to the 16th Legislative District, Assemblyman Peter Biondi died Thursday night of cancer. He was 69.

Biondi, a Hillsborough resident, disclosed last month that he was diagnosed last year with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He said last month that the disease was in remission.

In Tuesday's election, Biondi received 19,939 votes and was part of the Republican sweep along with running mate Jack Ciattarelli (R-Hillsborough) and Sen. Christopher Bateman (R-Somerville).

The Republicans will now select a replacement to fill Biondi's seat until a special election is held next November.
