Amtrak to Upgrade Tracks Between New Brunswick and Trenton

Improvements will allow speeds to increase from 135 mph to 160 mph.

Amtrak plans an $800 million capital plan that will include new rail cars and tracks, including tracks between the New Brunswick and Trenton rail stations.

The upgrades are part of a plan to increase speeds on all Amtrak lines, according to The Washington Post.

The plan calls for $466 million to pay for 70 new locomotives along the Northeast Corridor and $298 million for 130 new rail cars for the East Coast and Midwest, the Post reported.

NJ.com also reported that the national rail company will upgrade tracks between New Brunswick and Trenton to allow train speeds to jump from 135 mph to 160 mph.

“We’ve got to go faster, we’ve got to be more reliable, we’ve got to be more on time,” Amtrak President Joe Boardman said in the Post, “and we’ve got to coordinate all of that together in an investment in infrastructure for the Northeast corridor for the benefit of regional commuter and high-speed services.”
