Annual Dayton tree lighting highlights five (actually six) weekend events in and around South Brunswick.

Friday

3rd Annual Wine and Cheese Tasting Party, The Arc of Middlesex County, 219 Black Horse Ln, North Brunswick, 7 p.m.

The Wine and Cheese Tasting will once again feature a variety of fine wines, beers and other beverages, sumptuous foods, live music, as well as a chance to walk away with fantastic baskets from a Silent Auction. All are welcome to attend these festivities. Join in the fun, all while supporting The Arc Middlesex County.

Saturday

SB PAL Micah Lancaster I'm Possible Basketball Training, Crossroads South Middle School, 195 Major Rd, Monmouth Junction, 10 a.m.

Great opportunity to get on the court and work with one of the premiere basketball trainers in the world. Rookie Session-(4th grade & below) 10 - 11:15 a.m. Intermediate Session-(5th-7th grade) 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Advanced Session-(8th-12th grade) 1:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Cost is $50 (cash at the door) or register in advance. Please bring your own basketball (labeled with your name).

VFW Post 9111 Breakfast, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9111, 11 Henderson Rd, Kendall Park, 8 a.m.

Breakfast includes: made to order omelets, all you can eat buffet, pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, home fries, sausage, bacon, bagels, orange juice, coffee and tea. Donation - $9 for adults and $5 for children (age 6 to 12), Children five and under eat free. All contributions go to support Post 9111 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Open to the public.

8th Annual Run with the Vikings 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run, 750 Ridge Rd, Monmouth Junction, 9:30 a.m.

There will be three races - 1 mile @9:30am, 5K @10 a.m. & the mascot Kiddies dash @10:45 a.m. Online registration has been reopened. Number and t-shirt pick-up will be held at Road Runner Sports in North Brunswick on Friday, Nov. 30 from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m. and on race day beginning at 7:45 a.m. Bagels, bananas and refreshments for all runners after the race.

Sunday

 1001 Finnegan Ln, North Brunswick, noon.

Congregation B’nai Tikvah, at 1001 Finnegans Lane, North Brunswick, will host a Blood Donor Drive as part of their Rejoice & Rebuild Celebration on Sunday, December 2 from noon to 6 p.m. A Bloodmobile from the Blood Center of NJ will be conveniently parked in the synagogue’s parking area. Donors 17 and up (16 with Parent/Guardian written Okay) are eligible. Must be in good general health and weigh at least 120-lbs. Eat before donating, and have an ID with your signature. FDA Regulations require a Donor’s, or Social Security, number on your application. Just walk in, the entire process takes less than an hour. Questions? Call 1 800-BLOODNJ. Parent/Guardian approval forms are available at www.bloodnj.org.

Dayton Village 10th Annual Holiday Lighting Celebration, La Taverna, 375 Georges Rd, Dayton, 3:45 p.m.

Come join the fun as the Dayton Village Citizen's Coalition hosts their annual outdoor tree lighting event.  Celebration starts at 3:45 with the kids hanging homemade ornaments on the trees at the Slack-Carroll House, 345 Georges Road. At 4 p.m., the festivities cross the street to the garden of La Taverna for singing led by Larry Campanella. At around 4:40 p.m. Frosty will arrive with treats for the kids, and at 4:50 p.m. they will start the countdown to turn on the lights to the tree. Afterward, the festivities move across the street to the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church for hot chocolate and cookies. The public is invited to attend any or all parts of this event. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the South Brunswick Food Pantry.
