Splurge or Save? Which Beauty Products are Worth the Extra Cost

When Should You Splurge and When Should You Save When Buying Beauty Products

We all want to save money. Sometimes it is difficult to tell where in your shopping list you should cut back. When it comes to beauty products it can get very confusing, so I am going to break it down for you based on studies and surverys that were conducted.

Facial Moisturizer - Splurge! There is a difference in brand name ingredients vs. store brands. Better anti-aging components and also less greasy. Less chance of clogging pores or causing irritations or break outs. The cheaper ones can tend to be loaded with chemicals, oils and fillers as well.

Deodorant - Save! Most deodorants have exactly the same ingredients. Here the differnece would be if you prefer chemical free type deodorants. Such as Tom's of Maine, or organic, rock crystal deodorizer, etc. Then to get these types of deodorants you may have to pay a little more.

Suncreen - Save! Consumer Reports tests these often and many years store brands such as Target, come up number one on the list! Look for broad-spectrum coverage. You can look again for those that don't contain certain oils if you are concerned about break outs. No need to pay for pricier brands. Since you need to use lots of it - buy it in bulk.

Makeup - Splurge! Surveys reveal some of the best eye shadows and foundations are brand names. They stay on longer than their cheaper counterparts. They don't irritate skin and cause clogged pores etc. They have better colors and/or shades to match your skin when it comes to foundation. Certain store brands, such as Sephora, do carry decent products for affordable prices in case you don't want to splurge in this area.

Hairspray - Save! Most contain the same exact ingredients. Find one that works for what you want - whether it is soft hold or extra firm hold. Be sure to look for labels that state - minimal build up as well.

Shampoo - Save! Again, ingredients are very similar. Yuo can fin a type of shampoo in every price category - straightening, for curly hair, volumizing or moisturizing or purifying. Even color treated hair types. Find one you think works for you and go with that.

Nail Polish - Save! Since the polish should be ON TOP of your base coat, it won't directly effect your nail bed. For the base coat and/or the top coat - SPLURGE! better bases protect your nails and tend to not have harsh chemicals in them that will damage the nail and surrounding skin. Better top coat will give more of a shine to your nails, as well as do a better job of preventing chips longer than a cheap type.

Eye Cream - Splurge! Your eyes are sensitive and the skin around them - thin and sensitive. This is one of the first areas to show signs of aging. Be sure you get something that helps with fine lines, wrinkle prevention and moisturizers.

Body Lotions - Save! While some of the brand names have a stronger scent to them, most contents in lotions are the same. Find what works for you and your skin - whether it is all natural chemical free or fragrance free or scented lotion that stays with you for hours.
