New Year's Resolutions You Can Stick To

Easy Resolutions to Benefit Your Health

As the New Year begins, many people discuss their resolutions, or goals and plans, for the upcoming year. Most people want to lose weight, get in better shape, quit smoking, drink less alcohol, get more sleep and things along those lines. Unfortunately, most people start out very passionate about these things and quickly get over them! That is why making resolutions that are easier to stick to, not a ton of pressure on yourself, and beneficial to your life are a much better plan.

First, make sure you have a primary doctor. If you don't have a primary care physician, find one. While Urgent Care facilities are great for many emergent problems, a primary care dr. is necessary to regularly monitor your overall health. This dr. can do yearly physical exams, take regular blood work, monitor your weight and blood pressure, prescribe and renew regular medications, follow your allergies or any condition that could possibly turn into something more serious. They KNOW you. They watch your information and chart it regularly and can be of best help when something starts to go wrong. Primary care drs. are a dying breed, so finding one, and a good one you like, will not be the easiest task, so make this one of your resolutions and be sure to tackle it this year!

Be proactive with your health care. GO for the yearly screening exam that you need to.

Ask for copies of all of your test results and keep these in a folder at home so you can follow them from year to year or have access to them if you need specialty treatment.

Don't diagnose yourself by reading the internet. Leave this to the professionals.

LISTEN to your doctor's suggestions for your health condition. If they tell you what you should be eating or drinking, what medicine to take and when, what not to eat or do.......LISTEN!!! There is a reason they tell you these things!!

Remember, good health and longevity is NOT guaranteed to anyone, but you DO get a better chance if you take care of yourself and do the right things. So why not give yourself a fair chance this year and make 2012 the year your took control of your healthcare? It's a win - win situation!

Happy and Healthy New Year all!
