In Support of the Recent Decision to Allow Gay Marriage in the State of NJ

We at the Community Presbyterian Church of the Sand Hills are thrilled about the recent decision to allow gay marriage in the state of NJ.  Earlier this year, our congregation adopted an Inclusivity Statement, which reads:

We, the Community Presbyterian Church, declare ourselves open and affirming.

We believe all persons are “ministers, each and every one.”  With God’s grace we seek to be a congregation that includes all persons.

We embrace differences of sexual orientation, gender, race, age, mental ability and physical ability. Together we participate in the church, seeking “to know Christ, grow in discipleship, and live the challenge every day.”

The Session (Board of Elders) and the Outreach Team concurred that we should be an "open and affirming congregation," which means that we overtly embrace individuals who might differ from us and from each other. We welcome every person, accept our differences and give everyone the opportunity to live in harmony and support within our church family, regardless of sexual orientation, race, special needs, age and gender.  We want to follow the model of Jesus, who was inclusive of all people.  The above statement reflects our intent, and was approved at our Congregational Meeting on Sunday, January 20, 2013.
