Day By Day Hope Foundation's main purpose is to assist middle income and self employed families battling cancer. Check us out at www.daybydayhopefoundation.org

My name is Cheryl Confalone. I am a mother, wife, Holistic Practitioner/Nutritional Consultant and CANCER patient!

My children, ages 36, 32, 30 and 13 have been raised in South Brunswick. My husband and I have been in practice in the area since 1989. I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in late 2010.

I went through 4 months of chemo, then 3 surgeries in 6 weeks and then 2 months of daily radiation. After my first chemo treatment I developed a very large blood clot from the port in my chest, over my shoulder and down my arm. This landed me in the hospital on 2 separate occasions and continues to have me on daily injection in my abdomen.

Being self employed our insurance was less then the best! My medication cost soared to over $3,500 per month!

I watched as my husband tried to run our family business, take care of our then 12 year old son, our home and tend to all my needs with the help of our daughter. My needs were many! I often was unable to get up for days. I sometimes think this was the hardest part!

When cancer hits it effects the ENTIRE family! Children see things you never want them to see and learn about things we would like to protect them from! Finances take a hit when half your income stops! It is devastating when you have to think about whether to pay your mortgage or pay for the medications to save your life!

During this time I realized that I was blessed! Our family business was attached to our home and we only had one young child left at home. What if our other children were younger, what if my husband had to travel to the city everyday for work, what if we had less help at home then we did?? This realization made me think of all the other families battling cancer who may not be so blessed!

With the help of my family, we have founded Day By Day Hope Foundation. The primary purpose of this foundation is to help middle income and self employed families battling cancer! We will help with day to day needs as well as insurance and legal support.

Once again we have been blessed! Many local people, organizations and doctors have been very supportive in our endeavor. We have already been able to help several local families and hope to be able to help many more.

We are in need of volunteers who would like to lend a hand in any capacity. It isn't always about money. Sometimes it is just about emotional support, running an errand, offering a ride or cooking a meal. Everyone can do something!

Please consider how an illness would effect your life and look deep and see if there is any way you can assist.

Please take a look at our website at www.daybydayhopefoundation.org read about us and consider making a donation or contacting us to donate some time or a skill you may have. Consider participating in one of our many fund raising efforts. Let us know of some one who can use our help!

I will continue to blog from time to time to keep people aware of what we are doing as well as to share some of the life experiences cancer has brought to my family!
