South Brunswick Businesses Team Up to Aid Sandy Victims

Donate needed items to Hurricane Sandy victims at the Jersey Shore.

A group of South Brunswick businesses are joining together to aid residents of the Jersey Shore affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Family Karate Super Center, LocalChatBox.com and Central Jersey Catering are collecting items to bring to several Jersey Shore towns that were devastated by the storm.

There are specific items that first responders and shelters said are in desperate need. Please help by sending this message to everyone you know. Many teachers will be sending this out to the parents of their students to ask for the items and for student volunteers.

Adult volunteers will be also needed. So please spare a few hours to help sort and also to help deliver to the Jersey Shore areas. Cardboard boxes are also needed to help with the delivery.

All donated items need to be bagged and labeled to make it easier on the volunteers. All clothing should be either new and/or gently used-clean. They will dispose of any clothing that is dirty or unwashed. Remember these items are going to people who may not have a washer/dryer. Also no summer clothing please.

The drop-off location for the collection will be at the Family Karate Super Center, located at 621 Ridge Road in Monmouth Junction on Monday (today) from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday will be the delivery date to the towns in need.

We live in a great community - South Brunswick... not only do we have lots of stuff that has been delivered, and we are still receiving, but the township has been amazing! Shout Out to Davy James, editor of The Patch, to Suzanne Bennett ORourke Owner of Local Chat box and Sgt. Ryan of the SBPD for NIXLE --- all helping to get the message out to everyone in town!!! Finally to DonnaLynn of Family Karate who opened her doors for us to collect everything... what a great town!

Not sure where the supplies will be distributed to but I live in Bradley Beach.I was just at the Belmar distribution center and they said they also need Rubbermaid type containers with tops to pack all the supplies to distribute to families. Also the Monmouth Elementary School is in need of all sorts of supplies as they cannot return to their school at this time and will be housed in one of the upper schools. Thanks so much for organizing this I know it will be greatly appreciated. beachteach621@optonline.net

beachszq...thanks for the note. We are looking at some options as to how we can adopt a few schools in the shore area... Right now, we can only go as far as Toms River to donate supplies as they then take it and distribute south. Toms River is now a distribution point. But we are going to look at the schools as a separate effort...more info to come!!
