As the spring season coats numerous vehicles with a thick coat of pollen, South Brunswick residents who want their cars to shine are turning to the same place they've looked to since 1995 for that new car look, .
Located near the intersection of Major Road and Route 1, Major Car Wash is one of South Brunswick's family owned gems. The business is owned and operated by the Stanaway family, with locations in Princeton and Rahway as well.
"We've been around for a long time and provide a personal touch. We go out of our way to make sure everything is right with our customers and build relationships with them along the way," said co-owner Joan Stanaway.
Major Car Wash eschews the traditional car wash staple of huge rotating brushes for an environmentally safe system using EZE Foam.
"We use a lightweight foam that's almost like a foam sponge," Stanaway said. "Nothing can stick to it, no pebbles, so it's safer for the car. All of our chemicals are biodegradable and our hydraulic oil is biodegradable."
In an increasingly "green" conscious society, Major Car Wash provides a safer wash for the environment than a home car wash, which can pollute waterways when soap and oily grit washes into the storm drain and directly into lakes, rivers, and streams. At Major, the waste goes directly into the sewer system and through the water treatment facility.
The waiting room at Major Car Wash provides customers with a relaxing setting while their cars are worked on. A massage chair, cold drinks, couches and a pet friendly environment with free dog biscuits are available. The location also offers a one-stop shop for all things automotive.
"We offer full detailing, and this mall has a place for oil changes and custom car designs, so this is more or less like an automotive mall where you can come here and get more than a car wash," said Manager Ken Kowalski. "Plus the owners are here everyday to make sure everything is running right. You go to some places and you might never even see the owner."
In addition to the services offered at Major Car Wash, the business also gives back to the community with numerous fundraisers to help local groups, schools and charities like the .
"On Memorial Day we're going to be offering free washes for all veterans," Stanaway said. "We also do a lot with Hugs for Brady. I think it's important to give back to the community, and obviously for such an important cause as children with cancer. It's just a cause that touched my heart in so many different ways. Holding fundraisers with different groups is good for South Brunswick, but on a personal level it's good for me, so we try to give back to as many causes as possible. "
