Dayton Toyota Giving Away Free Car Saturday

Family Fun Sale will see one person walk away with a free car.

A free car may sound too good to be true, but as one woman found out earlier this year, Dayton Toyota's free car giveaway is no gimmick.

for her daughter at the dealership's Extravaganza Bonanza event. On Saturday, someone else will have the opportunity to share in the same kind of luck.

As part of Dayton Toyota’s Family Fun Sale this weekend, attendees can register to win a free car that would've been a loss for the dealership anyway. The event allows the dealership to pass along savings on cars that were to be sent to auction, according to Finance Manager Derek Kochie.

"We have some cars that are going to go to auction anyway and we'll lose money on that, so instead of losing money at auction we're going to lose it to the public and let them benefit from it," Kochie said.

The Family Fun Sale will also include a petting zoo and horse rides for kids, in addition to free hot dogs and drinks for all customers. Kochie said the dealership will also be offering incentives on all new cars, with special interest rates and lease rates.

At the giveaway in June, Martin was the beneficiary of a happy twist of fate after another customer cut in between her and her mother on line to pick up a ticket for the free car drawing.

"Once that happened, we didn't really pay attention that they cut in front of us," Martin said in June. "But in the end, my mother had ticket 095, in between was ticket 096, and I was the one that got the lucky number."

After choosing a 1997 Toyota Carolla, Martin picked up the car to give to her daughter that same day.

"She just loves the car and it's such a blessing for this to fall into our laps," Martin said. "It's exactly what we needed and we are so appreciative. Sometimes you see these free car giveaways in the newspaper and think that nobody ever wins those things. You think it's just a gimmick to get people into the dealership. But the surprising thing is that people do really win. I'm proof of that, I'm a winner."

On Saturday, someone will have a chance to share in Martin's good fortune.

"Last time we gave away a car to one contestant and they're still happy with it, so we're doing the same thing again this weekend," Kochie said. "We're not out here to hurt people, we're out here to create business and help out as many people as we can."

Registration for the free car giveaway will begin at 9 a.m. and run through 10 a.m. Saturday at 2291 Route 130 in Dayton. Customers will still be able to get a ticket for the free car drawing after the cutoff time if they're on line before 10 a.m., though as Martin's experience illustrates, cutting in front of another customer is not a winning strategy.
