St. Augustine School Students Achieve the Rubik’s Challenge

Odyssey of the Mind team members solve Rubik's puzzle in short order.

St. Augustine of Canterbury School students recently responded to the recommendation from Odyssey of the Mind to participate in the “You can do the Rubik’s cube” program. Rubik’s donated 36 cubes and solution guides for Odyssey of the Mind team members to solve the cubes.

More than 20 students, ranging from 7- to 14-years old accepted the challenge and began working at home. The students followed the solution guides and through patience and perseverance, they were able to solve the puzzle in minimal time.

This experience provided a lesson in following directions, logical thinking and achieving a goal!. One student solved the puzzle in just two minutes.

The Odyssey of the Mind team members chose to take the challenge further by selecting the mosaic builder and creating the image of Abraham Lincoln. Rubik sent the team 225 cubes, and the team earnestly worked to assemble the mosaic together at school.

Team work was evident as the mosaic was complete, and the students stood proud around their masterpiece of creativity and vigor of accomplishment.
