St. Augustine of Canterbury Opens Doors to Students for 50th Year

School to open doors on Sept. 5, the same date St. A's opened 50 years ago.

St. Augustine of Canterbury School opened its doors to students for the first time on September 5, 1963.

Fifty years later, the students will synchronously begin the 2013-2014 school year. The golden anniversary of St. Augustine School continues on this day with a prayer service in thanksgiving for the gift of Catholic education.

The school began the journey of excellence in 1963 with the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia until 1988 when the Brothers of the Sacred Heart continued steering students to academic success.  In 2001, the Religious Teachers Filippini began leadership at St. A’s and brought faith and scholarly achievement soaring for student distinction today.

On Sept. 13, St. A’s students will celebrate the dedication of the school with a prayer service; students will portray founding Bishop George W. Ahr, founding Pastor Father John J. Reilly, and first school Principal, Sister Lillian Francis.

A cornerstone will be placed in tribute of the school’s commemoration to 50 years of excellence in Catholic education.
