Food Festival Returns to South Brunswick Saturday

Dozens of restaurants and vendors will be on hand Saturday at Rowland Park for second annual Halal Food Festival.

A treat for every taste bud will be available in Rowland Park on Saturday with the second annual Halal Food Festival.

The event brings dozens of ethnic food vendors and entertainment options to the park to promote businesses, while supporting existing initiatives and projects in the community. Vendors lined up for the festival include the Douglass Pizzeria and Grill, Ibby's Falafel, Kasra Restaurant, Khan Kebob, Chinese Mirch, Kabab and Curry Express, Brunswick Pizza and Grill, and much more.

Non-food vendors include Wrapped up Diva, Paradise Fashions, SM Henna Designs and more.

The event, sponsored by the Islamic Society of Central Jersey and the Muslim Youth Community Center, will raise funds for the ISCJ expansion project, the MYCC youth initiatives and other local community projects. Attendees are also asked to bring donations for the South Brunswick Food Pantry, which is facing difficult times with rising numbers of people in need.

"We will finish the month seeing 88 families in the food pantry, and we have assisted 14 families with financial assistance," said Social Services Director LouAnne Wolf earlier this month.

The spring also brought in record high numbers at the time, as Social Services saw over 150 families in April and May, with an average of three new families per month. April alone brought the second highest total ever for the pantry at 76 families.

The festival will be held on Aug. 17 from noon to 7 p.m. at Rowland Park, located at 255 Broadway Road in Cranbury (South Brunswick). Tickets cost $3 if purchased online, or $5 in person at the festival.
