Acting for Fun Classes to be Held at the Community Center

Classes are for South Brunswick youth with special needs of any type, ages 7 to 21.

The South Brunswick Township Department of Parks and Recreation has announced registration for the Fall 2011, ACTING FOR FUN programs!

Come and join in on the excitement and good times!
 The classes are for South Brunswick resident youth with special needs of any type, ages 7 to 21-years-old.

Participants will receive additional support as needed. The program will run for eight weeks on Mondays at the South Brunswick Community Center.

There are two sessions, “ACTING FOR FUN! for Ages 7 – 12, from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., which will have children acting, moving, drawing, communicating, and telling stories.

Each week a book will be used as the springboard for the participants’ imaginations. The children will roar like lions, hop like rabbits, play theater games to stretch the imagination and other verbal and self-esteem building exercises.

In ACTING AND IMPROVISATION! for Ages 13 – 21, from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., participants will gain acting skills through the use of theatre games, improvisation, and story dramatization. Through repetition and by approaching each technique from many angles, including story dramatization, visual arts activities, and movement exercises, students will incorporate what they learn and create scenes to share with one another.

Dates for the classes  are: Mondays, September 26, October 3, 17, 24, Nov. 14, 21, 28, Dec. 5, 
(no classes on Oct. 10, 31 or Nov. 7). The Deadline to register, space permitting is Sept. 19.

The registration fee is $25 per participant, residents only. Scholarships are available on request.

The program Instructor, Jean Prall Rosolino, has taught for the Mercer County Office for the Disabled and VSA NJ for over 20 years. She is the founder of Youth Stages LLC, an arts in education organization, has an MA in Educational Theater from NYU and has extensive experience in teaching and performing for children. There will also be program assistants and volunteer aides for the participants in the program.
