The Week Ahead in South Brunswick

A digest of what's going on in South Brunswick from May 23-27

  • Tuesday 7:30 p.m.Kingston Fire House. A slide presentation will be presented by Canal author and historian Linda J. Barth. Did you know that for more than 170 years, the Delaware and Raritan Canal has meandered across the narrow waist of New Jersey? Did you know that the D&R was one of our nation’s most successful towpath canals, carrying more tonnage in 1866 than the more famous Erie Canal? Did you know that Johnson & Johnson, Roebling, and Fleischmann’s Distillery all had their start along the D&R? And did you know that the canal provides the people of central New Jersey with both a water supply and a premier recreational facility? Linda Barth will introduce us to the people, the bridges, the locks, and the aqueducts that made the canal work.
  • TuesdaySouth Brunswick Township Council Meeting, 7:30 p.m.South Brunswick Municipal Building. The council will be voting on  cents per $100 of assessed valuation.  Click here to see the agenda.
  • Wednesday: At the Movies: Wednesday Wisdom at the South Brunswick Public Library. 1:30 p.m.will continue to show movies on the fourth Wednesdays of every month. The films that presented will be "classics" and they will include films of some of the plays reviewed in 2010 in the Playwrights and their Plays series if available.  This week will feature "You Can’t Take it with You," which is Frank Capra's 1939 film, based on the play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. Starring James Stewart, Jean Arthur, Lionel Barrymore, Edward Arnold and Ann Miller. Comedy in which the daughter of an eccentric family falls for the son of a wealthy New York family. 
  • Wednesday 7 p.m. The READY, SET, READ Literacy Workshops is a series of seven workshops to give parents the tools to improve their parenting skills or enhance their child’s literacy skills. This week's program focuses on reading with your child.
  • Friday 12:30 p.m. The  will present Smt. Kaiyani Ramani, who is an Indian classical musician (Carnatic style). Blessed with a solid foundation in both vocal and instrumental styles, as well as in the theory of music, she has an uncanny ability to blend performances with her teachnig. She will be accompanied on the violin by Ms. Radhika Devrajan.
