Stamp Out Hunger Returns to South Brunswick Saturday

Letter carriers across the country will be on the receiving end of some special deliveries on Saturday during the nationwide "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign, America’s largest single-day food drive.

On Saturday, over 1,500 National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC)  branches from each state will have more than 230,000 letter carriers collect non-perishable goods from people’s mailboxes, according to the NALC.  The program is being run in more than 10,000 cities and towns, including locally at the Kendall Park Post Office, which will be donating collected food items to the South Brunswick Food Pantry.

"This is an annual event that gets a lot of people and organizations involved to help restock food pantries across the county," said Darryl Whitaker of the Kendall Park Post Office. "We've been doing this in excess of 20 years and it's the largest one-day event of its kind."

All donations should be left in the mailbox on Saturday and carriers in Kendall Park will collect the food during their normal delivery time. Residents can leave non-perishable food in bags next to mailboxes if donations exceed the mailbox size.  

People are asked to not donate any items that are in glass containers. Carriers will also accept personal care items like baby diapers, paper towels, and other toiletries.

Donations can also be dropped off in the lobby of the Kendall Park Post Office located at 3124 Route 27, Kendall Park.

"All of the food goes directly to the South Brunswick Food Pantry, so we just want to thank all those who participate and help us out," Whitaker said.
