South Brunswick Volunteer Nurses Bring Expertise to the Community

Up close and personal: Getting to know Aging in Place representatives.

"To have ideas is to gather flowers; to think is to weave them into garlands,"-- Anne Swetchine.

This is part four of a series designed to introduce readers to the civic minded individuals who contribute to the work of the Aging in Place PARTNERSHIP and demonstrate the vital background and skills they bring to the Steering Committee “table” at each month’s meeting.

AIPP welcomes Norma Carbin and Paulette Estok, representatives of the South Brunswick Volunteer Nurses Corps. The SBVNC is a newly formed volunteer group of professional nurses, incorporated by South Brunswick Township, under the auspices of the Public Health Department, to serve the community.

Each brings their unique interests and expertise to the AIPP steering committee. They provide community based information to our partnership and will add considerable depth to the AIPP Health and Wellness committee, joining Sharon Caccamo, AIPP Board President and Director of Volunteers for Life Choice Hospice; Caryl Greenberg, Social Worker at the South Brunswick Senior Center; Bonnie Kramer, owner director of Elder Care Solutions, along with representatives from Buckingham Place Assisted Day Center.

The SBVNC goals include providing community service to residents of South Brunswick, preparing nurses to respond in the event of a community emergency, and providing educational and networking opportunities to member nurses.

You may see them assisting at blood pressure screenings, health and wellness fairs and screenings, immunization clinics, and community events providing information about health, safety, and wellness such as the Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA and the monthly blood pressure screening at the Senior Center.

They hold quarterly meetings of the entire SBVNC and monthly meetings of the planning committee, both of which are open to the public. Many of the members have also joined the Middlesex County Medical Reserve Corps in order to be better prepared to serve in case of an emergency event.

The Aging In Place PARTRNERSHIP is delighted to welcome the SBVNC as our newest steering committee member and looks forward to exploring opportunities to join in making South Brunswick  a community that provides a supportive and thriving  place to live for families and people of all ages.

With the South Brunswick Health Department’s the support for the Volunteer Nurse Corps, the Township once again demonstrates its ongoing commitment to recognizing and making available unique partnerships.
