South Brunswick Girl Named State Finalist in National American Miss Pageant

Morgan Myers, 13, will represent South Brunswick at state level of the National American Miss Pageant next month.

A local teen will be competing with girls from around the state next month for the right to represent New Jersey in the annual National American Miss pageant.

Morgan Myers, 13, was recently chosen as a state finalist for the pageant, which will be held Aug. 17 and 18 in East Brunswick. Morgan will compete for the opportunity to win prizes, scholarships, cash and other awards at the competition.

The winner of the state competition wins $1,000, a crown and banner, and transportation costs to compete in the national competition at Disneyland in California.

Competitors are judged on personal introduction, formal wear poise and appearance, communications skills in an interview, and participating in a community involvement project on the weekend of the pageant.

Morgan's activities include participation in the Girl Scouts, softball, karate, cheerleading and basketball.

The pageant, which is based on inner beauty and self-confidence, seeks to develop future female leaders through developing self-esteem, according to the pageant web site.
