SBHS Grad Holding Breast Cancer Fundraiser

Ashley Vandenbos, 2007 SBHS graduate, will be holding a fundraiser on Sunday at the North Brunswick Pub to help in the fight against breast cancer.

South Brunswick residents can come out to the North Brunswick Pub on Sunday for some good deals and giveaways in support of great cause. Monmouth Junction resident Ashley Vandenbos, a 2007 graduate of South Brunswick High School, is holding a fundraising event to raise money in support of her team's participation in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in New York City this October.

"My aunt has breast cancer and a couple of people I work with participated in the walk one year, so we decided to do it together," Vandenbos said.

The Avon event is a 39.1 mile walk around New York City on Oct. 15 and 16 to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

"It's 39 miles between two days and we camp overnight in the city," Vandenbos said. "They're going to have showers set up for us on the back of tractor trailers, so it's not going to be pretty."

Vandenbos' two person team has committed to raising $3,600 for the event.

"We should be training for it, but we're just going to wing it," she said. "We both work a lot, so it's hard to find time to train. I walk my dog, but that's about it for my training."

The event on Sunday at the North Brunswick Pub costs $20 at the door to participate and will include three free drink tickets. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, t-shirts for sale and two DJs on hand.

"This is for a really good cause that affects so many people," Vandenbos said. "There needs to be more done about it, so we're doing what we can to help find a cure."

The fundraiser will be held at the North Brunswick Pub on Sunday, July 17 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The North Brunswick Pub is located at 1864 Route 1 in North Brunswick.
