Pro Wrestling Stars Battle at SBHS Saturday

Former WWE superstars Matt Hardy, the Iron Sheik and Tommy Dreamer will perform at South Brunswick High School to raise money for the SBPAL.

Some of the biggest names in the world of professional wrestling will be putting on a show in South Brunswick this weekend to aid the SBPAL.

Former WWE stars Matt Hardy, Tommy Dreamer and the iconic Iron Sheik will step in the ring at South Brunswick High School Saturday to help raise money to keep costs down for the athletic league.

"This is the second time we're doing a wrestling event and we chose this because none of the other organizations in town do this type of thing," said Ed Young of the SBPAL. "We try to work with the other organizations and not duplicate the fundraisers they do. Last time we did it, it was a really good night and the crowd just loved the wrestlers' antics and the way they interacted with the fans."

The SBPAL, which began in 1991, runs Pop Warner football, cheerleading, flag football, basketball and wrestling in town. The annual fundraiser serves to help keep down costs for everything from uniforms, facilities, referees and insurance so parents don't have to pay a large participation fee.

"Our focus is about the youth of South Brunswick to provide safe outlets for their athletic ability and to develop good citizens of this town," Young said. "Sports is a great way to do that and we like to think we're enhancing their growth potential by making them more responsible and giving them a fun outlet."

Helping the SBPAL in their mission will be the National Pro Wrestling Superstars.

Hardy has performed on some of the biggest wrestling stages in the world as part of "The Hardy Boyz" tag team with his brother Jeff, winning multiple tag team titles in the WWE, in addition to being a former ECW champion.

The Iron Sheik is infamous to wrestling fans of the 1980's as his feud with Hulk Hogan helped launch pro wrestling into the mainstream. The Sheik is also well known to fans of the Howard Stern radio show. The "Hardcore Icon" Dreamer is also a former ECW champion known throughout the world as "The Innovator of Violence."

However, the show on Saturday is family friendly and appropriate for all ages.

"This is going to be a show for the whole family so there won't be anything going on that you would see on TV at 11 p.m. or anything like that," Young said.

In addition to the headliners, there will be an appearance by Mor-Ta-Da (a tribute character to former WCW star Mortiss).

Fans can also see an NPWS Tag-Team Title Match, with the duo of "Retro Rocker" Rikki Roxx and South Brunswick native The Jersey Kidd, also known as The Lords Of Rock 'N Roll, challenging the two-time NPWS Tag-Team Champions The 2 Rude Dudes,"Corrupted" Corey Havoc and Rampage Rogers.

There will also be appearances by NPWS Cruiserweight Champion "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie, Junior Heavyweight Champion "Jersey Shore Jock" Mike Dennis, and Jersey Shore Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans, plus other stars like "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto, Eddie "Spaghetti" Franken, The Funky White Boy, "The White Urkel" B. Fehrm, Big Smith James, and much more.

Tickets are available at the special discounted price of $20 for the first two V.I.P rows at ringside, $15 open ringside seats, and $12 for bleacher seats.

Tickets are available from the South Brunswick P.A.L. at their web site http://www.sbpalstore.com, or by calling the NPWS box office at 732-888-1704. All major charge cards are accepted, and special rates are available for groups of ten or more.

Doors open on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the event will get started at 7:35 p.m.

"They put on a really fun show, the wrestlers take pictures with the kids, and there are also autograph stations set up so it's going to be a really fun night for the whole family," Young said.
