Benefit Planned for South Brunswick Marine Who Received Heart Transplant

South Brunswick High School graduate Christopher Molnar, 19, an Eagle Scout and U.S. Marine, is in need of help with medical bills.

Christopher Molnar is a young man who has given much to South Brunswick.

As an Eagle Scout, Molnar's Eagle project took over 400 man hours to build for Christ the King Church. He constructed a 20 x 20 foot patio with a walkway and benches, re-striped the parking lot and improved the landscaping around the church.

Molnar achieved the rank of Eagle in March 2012, then graduated in June from South Brunswick High School and entered into basic training for the U.S. Marines a few months later in August.

After he graduated as a Private First Class on Nov. 16, Molnar returned home to Kendall Park for a 10-day leave of absence before he was set to begin Marine Combat Training. But a serious medical condition prevented that from happening.

On Nov. 25, Molnar suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered he was in heart failure due to a fatally enlarged heart. Molnar received immediate surgery to implant a Ventricular Assist Device to keep him alive while he awaited a heart transplant.

After waiting for five months, Christopher received a healthy heart and is now at home recovering.

But now the Molnar family needs help from the community with the massive medical expenses. To help the heroic young man who gave of himself willingly for his township and his country, a benefit concert is planned later this month.

The band Five O'Clock Shadow, who is well known in the Boston area, will bring a variety of pop-rock music that is appropriate for all ages to the township on May 29.

Come out for a night of great music and help demonstrate what this community is all about.

The concert will be held at South Brunswick High School at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 students and are available by calling 609-454-7902. Tickets will also be available at the door.
