Annual Steak Dinner Brings Help to South Brunswick Library

Over 100 guests attend annual fundraising dinner for SBPL

The 9th Annual All-You-Can-Eat Beef Steak Dinner once again quenched appetites for beef and pasta, as well as prizes and revelry.

About 110 paid guests attended the annual South Brunswick Public Library Foundation’s fundraising dinner on April 27 at the South Brunswick Senior Center.  It’s always hard to choose which the biggest attraction at this event is: the all-you-can-eat filet mignon, generous prize drawings, or bread sculpting competition.

This year the winner of the bread sculpture contest went to Magic Kingdom Castle, created by Frank and Linda Dougherty, Donna Bassco, Ed Araujo, and Laszlo Nyitrai. The winning sculpture was chosen by Library Friends Board Members Julia Lea and Luda Bakunovich.

While large trays of antipasto and pasta began to arrive at tables, attendees were treated to a musical performance on the stage by The Angeltones, a foot-tapping all-female singing group. It is the first time in years since the event included musical entertainment.

Guests included a cross-section of South Brunswick Township.  Many of the regulars were there: Mayor Frank Gambatese dined with Arthur and Debbie Roedel Jr. of the Monmouth Mobile Home Park and their friends.

The next few tables over sat a raucous bunch from the local Policemen’s Benevolent Association along with assorted council members, municipal workers, and their friends and families.  Members of the public sat in family groups or civic-oriented groups including Aging in Place,  the South Brunswick Garden Club, and Library organizations.

It is a true community event with so many guests who are active in various capacities in the township.  All of the prizes are donated by local businesses.  Beer and soda are donated by High Grade Beverage.  Catering is done by The Brownstone.

The Library Foundation is grateful for the good service and kind generosity of those people and businesses that made this event once again so successful and enjoyable.  Please consider joining us next year for this delicious annual affair that helps support the Library.
