Karaoke dance, poetry reading highlight weekend events in and around South Brunswick.


American Legion Post 401 Karaoke Dance, 148 Major Rd, Monmouth Junction, 8:30 p.m.

American Legion Post 401 will host a Karaoke Dance on Friday, Jan. 18, beginning at 8:30 p.m. The Karaoke is free and open to the public. For information call 732-329-9861.


Laboratory of Life: Middle School Science Fun, South Brunswick Public Library, 110 Kingston Ln, Monmouth Junction, 2 p.m.

Come and learn about how chemicals with carbon in it can affect your life. They will be doing experiments with milk and building a sugar molecule. No prior chemistry knowledge needed, that's what you'd come to learn.

New Jersey writer Michael Rushnak, M.D., MPH, will be in the library for a talk about his Medical Mystery Thriller Trilogy called The Health Club Mysteries.  The latest installment , Denied, was released in July 2012 and has a 5-star rating on Amazon.com. Come hear how this doctor, who practiced here in central New Jersey for many years, has gone on to become a successful novelist in his retirement penning medical mystery thrillers based on real life experience.  He recently was chosen by The Author's Show, an Online, TV and Radio showcase for authors, as being "One of the 50 Great Writers You Should be Reading."    Of the almost 1,000 medical thrillers sorted by Amazon on customer reviews, DENIED is ranked #7 and Mr. Rushnak's other two books, The Saviour Vaccine and Termninal Negect are in the top 2% of all medical thrillers.

Princeton area poets James Arthur and Jean Hollander will be reading at the South Brunswick Library. The program is offered for free, but a donation of canned goods for the local food pantry is encouraged.
