South Brunswick Transportation Clarification

I think the individual who commented on today's (April 24) Transportation headline  article stating, anytime he sees a Township bus he sees only one person....... says it all.

Does anyone think a single rider on a bus driven by a paid employee, maintained, insured and gassed using tax payers dollars is an efficient way to run a transportation service?

Today's Transportation headline news, was an open letter to the Township Council, read by friend at the request of the letter writer, Pat Kay,who is blind.  The essence, while essentially accurate,is incorrect in reporting it  was a report from the Middlesex County Senior and Handicapped Transportation Advisory Board. Although Dr. Kay is a member of that Advisory Board (and several others), the letter was her own, not an organization's.

It reflected her frustration.  Recognizing no matter the number of attempts to engage Township decision makers in meaningful discussions, none knows anything about the real life transportation challenges seniors and disabled residents experience on a daily basis.  Essentially the responses are similar to the "elevator speech"  the Councilman made in response to the letter.

Responding she said, his remarks were reflected in her letter and added that she was speaking on behalf of the many Township's senior and handicapped residents who could not attend the Council meeting because they have no transportation.

I know if she could read today's headline she would invite any and all who either cannot drive or know someone who cannot drive for whatever reason... be they senior citizens (55 and over)....handicapped, disabled of any age, to join her. Her goal to initiate a reliable, affordable, and accessible curb to curb service, most recent success is the donation of a handicapped accessible van. The next step is signing up volunteer drivers (they can make their own schedule); they'll be included on a volunteer insurance policy. Interested riders will be able to join, probably by July 2014.
