The South Brunswick 12U Vikings Black Softball Team participated in the Mid-Atlantic Recreation Open tournament in Howard County,  Maryland July 12th & 13th.  To help pay for their trip the team sponsored several fundraisers throughout the year including a Pancake Breakfast with Tricky Tray and a Friendly Tournament .  The Vikings started off strong in their first game on Saturday with an 8-4 win.  Their second game resulted in a loss.  During Sunday’s playoff game the opposing team took an early 4-run lead.  The Vikings came back in the fourth inning to tie the score.  The team continued to rally in the fifth inning leading by 3.  In the end the other team closed out the game with a 1-run win.

Coached by Joe Scaletti, Keith McCoy and Mike Linchner, the team has participated in local tournaments including Hopewell, Medford and  Carteret and a couple of Friendlies at home and Ewing.  They ended their season this past weekend at home at the Sid Lee Tournament.  As a way of giving back to their community they are sponsoring a food drive for the South Brunswick Food Pantry at all three Sid Lee Tournaments (16U on July 11-13, 14U/12U on July 18-20, and 8U/10U on July 25-27) and at the Boys Classic Baseball Tournament now through July 31st.  Drop off containers can be found at Reichler Park, Woodlot Park, and Rowland Park during these dates.  Any and all donations would be appreciated.
