Pedals for Progress Bike Drive This Saturday!

The South Brunswick Education Association is hosting its annual Pedals for Progress Bicycle and Sewing Machine Collection on Saturday, May 31st.
The SBEA Collection, in its 15th year, collects used bikes (of all sizes) and sewing machines, then sends them to developing nations through Pedals for Progress.  Pedals for Progress is a New Jersey Based charity (see www.p4p.org for more information.)  Items need not be in perfect working order, but should not be beyond repair.  Because the items are shipped overseas, a $10 donation is requested with each item to help with the shipping costs (which average $40 per bike.)
In the developing nations that receive these bikes and sewing machines, locals' lives are vastly improved, as they gain transportation and a means of livelihood.
The South Brunswick Education Association is a major sponsor of this event, with SBEA teachers volunteering their time to organize the collection.  A grant from the NJEA also helps with the cost of shipping and promoting the event.
The collection will take place on Saturday, May 31st, 2014 from 12-3pm at South Brunswick High School (750 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction) in the gym lot.  The Tour de South Brunswick bike ride will be taking place that morning in the same location, and bikes can also be dropped off then.    Tax receipts will be provided for donations.
