It’s that time of year again; High School Senior Trip, High School Senior Cut Day, Graduation and of course the Senior Program.  It’s become a right of passage.  More recently, another indication that it’s that time of year, are the local high schools’ annual displays of smashed, trashed and totaled cars – stark reminders to not drink and drive. As cliché as the wrecks and “Stay Alive, Don’t Drink and Drive” signs are, the message is clear.  Drinking and driving kills.

Now I could go on and on about the unsettling statistics of fatalities, but I remember being bombarded with them in high school as I rolled my eyes thinking, “I’m never going to drink and drive.” But it’s more than just knowing you won’t do it yourself. The second dumbest thing next to drunk driving is getting into a car with a drunk driver.

So be safe not only during prom season, but all the time.

• Don’t let anyone get behind the wheel after any amount of drinking. Not only is it dangerous, it’s ILLEGAL!
• Don’t ever get in the car with someone who has been drinking no matter how “fine” they say they are.
