The Never Ending Battle

In a world where everyone is connected to one another all the time, it comes as no surprise that cell phone banning laws are met with a great indifference from the public.  No matter what the fine, how many points on your license, or how forcefully these laws are enforced, people continue to ignore the dangers of talking and/or texting and driving. In this Tuesday’s Star Ledger there was an article about a bill that was approved by the Assembly that raises the fine from $100 to $200 for a first offense of cell phone use while driving, $400 for a second offense, and $600 for the third. The third offense and beyond carries a three-point penalty and possible license suspension.  It seems, however, that nothing has changed. Wednesday morning’s Star Ledger contained an article that basically said that despite all efforts made, the number of accidents since 2007 has remained relatively constant.

So please, for your safety, your passengers’ safety, and the safety of those driving, walking and biking around you, put down the phone. No call or text is worth your life.
