South Brunswick Police Warning Residents About Solicitors

Megan's Law offender from Browns Mills attempted to solicit work from a uniformed South Brunswick Police officer.

South Brunswick Police are urging residents to use caution when dealing with solicitors following an incident Wednesday on Georges Road.

According to police, at around 2 p.m. a South Brunswick police officer was in uniform at their residence off of Georges Road when a male knocked on the officer's door. The male, identified by police as Robert Arnwine, 36, of Browns Mills, backed away from the home after the officer answered the door. Arnwine told the officer he was looking to cut down some trees, according to police.

The officer declined Arnwine's offer, and then observed him walk to a running minivan where a female was waiting.

"If someone unsolicited knocks on your door and offers to do work be very skeptical," said Chief Raymond Hayducka. "If you feel uncomfortable or believe the interaction was suspicious, call police."

The officer questioned the two occupants of the minivan why they had come all the way to South Brunswick from Browns Mills to cut down trees. The officer then asked the pair for identification, but Arnwine said he didn't have any, according to police.

Arnwine was also unable to provide a date of birth or age, police said. An investigation revealed that Arnwine is a Megan's Law offender who was wanted in Burlington County since August. Arnwine was arrested and turned over to Burlington County authorities.

"One of our greatest assets is an engaged community," Hayducka said. "If you don't feel comfortable with a situation, call us."
