The SBHS dance Varsity and Junior Varsity teams won first place in jazz and pom at last weekend's Battle of the Northeast, hosted by South Brunswick High School.

The South Brunswick High School winter track teams both won at the Middlesex County relay championships last Friday night in Toms River.

Patch's weekly look at the most bizarre police-related incidents from around New Jersey featured a West Deptford homeowner who showed some kindness to a woman whose car had broken down—and paid for it. The woman allegedly learned, while getting help from the homeowner, that the homeowner would be away for a day—and broke into the homeowner's house. Police say the woman took an iPad, jewelry and other goods, but was caught after the items were found at a nearby pawn shop.

State Assemblyman Alex DeCroce, 75, died suddenly last Monday after a long deliberative session at the Statehouse. DeCroce's death delayed Gov. Chris Christie's State of the State Address, which will now be held on Tuesday.

A bill aimed at preventing teen suicide was signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Christie. The state will develop a prevention plan within six months.

Gov. Christie is expected to sign off on three bills passed by the state Senate and Assembly last Monday which amend the state constitution to allow for sports betting at New Jersey casinos and horse tracks and off-track wagering at bars and restaurants.

All three South Brunswick fire departments (Kendall Park, Kingston, and Monmouth Junction) are sponsoring the Stay Strong Brandon 5K Fun Run to help defray the medical expenses of transporting Brandon Dominguez to his chemotherapy treatments.

Kendall Park's Rockn' Joe Coffeehouse and Bistro closed its doors unexpectedly and the company is now looking to sell the franchise eatery located on Route 27.

Staff and students of the South Brunswick School District honored the service of Board of Education members as part of Board of Education Recognition Month in New Jersey.

The South Brunswick School District received a favorable financial audit report that contained no areas of inefficiencies during Monday's Board of Education meeting.

The SyBorgs robotics team, comprised of four freshmen from South Brunswick High School, earned a spot in the state finals for the qualifying rounds for the FIRST Tech Challenge.

The students of Dance Storm International will hold their second annual Give Back Program to benefit the South Brunswick Food Pantry at the South Brunswick Senior Center on Jan. 21.

A record high $26,000 was donated to South Brunswick Social Services during December, 2011. The contributions helped the food pantry provide a happy holiday season for the township's less fortunate.

All South Brunswick School District board members are free to continue their volunteer service after complying with required criminal background checks now required by the state Board of Education.

The South Brunswick Reads program is returning to encourage the entire community to read the same book at the same time, while fostering closer relationships between students and parents, and improved literacy in 2012. After last year's program was a success with "The Wizard of Oz," this year's selection is Lewis Carroll’s classic "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland."
