Director with Jersey roots to present psychological thriller "A Thousand Cuts" in Vineland--- film stars Academy Award nominee Michael O'Keefe.

     Charles Evered is bringing a film he co-wrote and directed, "A Thousand Cuts"-- to the inaugural NJ Horrorfest in Vineland. Screening will take place Saturday, October 13th at 3pm at the historic Landis Theater. Evered will attend in person and is scheduled to participate in a Q&A after the screening. The film also stars horror stalwarts David Naughton, (American Werewolf in London), and Jimmy Van Patten, (Saw).

     Evered, a Rutgers and Yale educated screenwriter and playwright, was born in Passaic, raised in Rutherford and currently splits his time between Princeton and Los Angeles. His last feature as a director was Adopt a Sailor, starring Emmy winners Peter Coyote and Bebe Neuwith. Adopt a Sailor made its cable premiere on Showtime, and was an official selection at more than 20 national and international film festivals. Besides being an award winning playwright, Evered also wrote a highly rated episode of the USA Network hit "Monk," starring Emmy winner and fellow Yalie Tony Shalhoub.

     "A Thousand Cuts" tells the story of Frank, (O'Keefe), a mysterious stranger who makes his way from Oklahoma to Hollywood to visit revenge upon a hot shot Hollywood horror director, played by Michael A. Newcomer--- whom Frank believes is responsible for his daughter's death. As Evered notes, A Thousand Cuts doesn't fit neatly into the "horror genre": "The truth is, it's not a horror film, it's a psychological thriller set in the world of horror films. It's actually a character study of two men pushed to the brink, and who literally face off in a fight for survival. It's a film that asks the question----"Who is responsible for the images we put out there as filmmakers---and for the possible consequences of those images?"

     A Thousand Cuts had its festival premiere at the prestigious Palm Springs International Film Festival and has been picked up for distribution by Kino-Lorber. It's set for official release in January of 2013.
